Data Driven Management of Traffic and Patrol Operations
|
|
Designed specifically for Florida agencies, this course teaches the effective and efficient deployment of agency resources using the highly successful DDACTS (Data-Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety) model. It also includes specific assistance after the course for agencies that would like assistance with gaining access to and analyzing the needed data.
DDACTS is a place-based operational model using traffic crash, crime, and enforcement data to conduct the systematic and justifiable deployment of resources where the prevalence of traffic crashes and crime occur. It establishes a clear relationship between traffic crashes and crime and renews the emphasis on traffic safety as a tool to reducing crashes, crime, and other social harms.
During the course, you will learn the seven guiding principles of DDACTS and the best practices for implementing each using your available work force and data resources. We will show you how to build support both internally and externally that will facilitate acceptance of the strategy. And we will teach you how to adapt the model to fit your agency’s size, culture, supervision, and deployment strategies.
The course includes one full day of instruction from a data specialist that has been instrumental in helping agencies throughout the nation overcome the obstacles associated with data access, quality, and analysis. Upon the conclusion of the course, the analyst will return to the area to provide technical assistance as needed to attending agencies.
Topics include: • Overview of highway safety • DDACTS overview • DDACTS philosophy, strategies, and tactics • Partners and stakeholders participation • Data collection • Data analysis • Strategic Operations • Information sharing and outreach • Monitoring, evaluating, and adjusting • Outcomes • Project management
Audience: Supervisory and command level officers, agency administrators and crime/data analysts. It is highly recommended that each agency send a team that includes analysts or persons who will supply and analyze the data along with the supervisory personnel who will use the data to direct resources.
Course length: 40 hours
Funding for this course has been provided by the Florida Department of Transportation. A limited number of tuition grants have been made available for Florida law enforcement officers and data personnel to attend free of charge.
