Adobe Photoshop for Law Enforcement

In this specialized “hands on” course, we will teach you court approved techniques that can be used to enhance forensic digital images.  You will also learn how to archive and database all of your agency’s digital photos and create standard operating procedures for a proper chain of custody.

You will learn how to use the image enhancement tools available in Adobe Photoshop while we explain the do’s and don’ts of the software.  We will show you the best methods for fingerprint pattern enhancements so that your work will stand up to challenges by the court.  Course assignments will become increasingly more advanced as each new project will build upon the previous one.  A comprehensive individual enhancement exercise will serve as a final exam and you will be required to answer, in a simulated moot court fashion, questions regarding the enhancements you made.

You will also learn methods for managing and archiving the photos taken on a daily basis by your agency’s personnel.  You will be required to create a work flow system for the storage of photos and will set-up a database to use during the week.  In addition, we will show you how to develop standard operating procedures for governing image management and maintaining a proper chain of custody in compliance with judicial guidelines.

This course is designed for law enforcement members who are responsible for archiving digital photographs for their agency as well as those who are charged with the tasks of processing photographs for courtroom display and preparing photographed patterned evidence for comparison purposes.
